Crossed into the Northern Territory at 9am and 34 degrees. The landscape is endless plains of bleached grassy tussocks as far as the eye can see. Now we're talking Big Sky. Oh and 130km speed limit!
About an hour later, the warning light saying the transmission fluid was overheating came on. We pulled over, popped the bonnet and checked it. Plenty of fluid in there. We let it cool off for a bit then took off again. The light went off so we were hoping it stayed that way! We do carry spare fluid but not much we could do about it overheating.
Further on we overtook a 4.3m wide load, getting in the radio first so he could tell us when it was safe to do so. 20 mins later there was one coming the other way and we heard the pilots talking to each other. That would've been one massive game of chicken to watch!
The drive went pretty quickly (just 470km today!) and before we knew it we were at Barkly Station topping up with diesel for a $1.80 a litre!
Less than 2 hrs later we were at Threeways turning South. The only option is North to Darwin, hence the name.
15 mins down the road and we arrived at Tennant Ck the 4th biggest town in the NT.
We were in the lap of luxury at the Outback Caravan Park as they have a POOL!! Wow how awesome. We set up in lightening quick time and then jumped in the beautiful clean refreshing water -some of us fully clothed!! No dogs allowed though :(
We restocked at the bottle shop (which is opposite the police station and has a resident police officer ticking names off a list) and scored a free foam esky too! Good times.
