Day 23: Sun 3 Jan:Bourke to Cunnamulla 257km

Had a massive sleep in and watched a movie in bed with bacon and egg wraps as therein continued to fall softly but steadily.

Finally got our act together and hit the road at 10.30am when the rain stopped briefly. It was chilly at 20 degrees brrrrrr!

We only had about 2 and a half hours driving to do and it had started raining again, so we just took it easy up the Mitchell Hwy. there was quite a lot of water on the road and alongside it as well which may have had something to do with the amount of wildlife who decided to play chicken with us.

We must've had near misses with about 50 critters along the way; it was particularly bad after we crossed the border into Queensland.

There were heaps of feral goats, emus, kangaroos and various birds all over the place. We clipped the tail of one Roo and a Galah flew into the side of the van.

We arrived into a rather soggy Cunnamulla at 12pm (no Daylight Saving in QLD) and filled up with diesel for $1.26 a litre before grabbing a snack and heading to Warrego Park.

Wow this trumped everywhere we've stayed before. It was right on the riverbank and was laid out beautifully like a garden with edible herbs (pick as much as you like!), roses, lavender and native plants and flowers separating the campsites from each other. They had an amazing camp kitchen all laid out like an outback shed and all the amenities were beautiful Colonial style. Absolutely bursting with character and what an outback caravan park should be like. It is for sale in case anyone has $1.5 million!

We set up and snuggled down to spend the rest of the arvo reading and relaxing with a bowl of van-made buttered popcorn,  while the drought broke outside!  Yep we Rainmakers did it again!!

We had pizza from the Oxford for dinner and then battened down the hatches for the night!
